After lunch I learned something very interesting about working in the review section of the Strand, and that is: when you work back there, you get to see the review copies (which are 50% cover price, and then for employees 50% off of that) first. So if there’s just one review copy of something, you’ve got dibs. Thus, today I bought Flaw, a Polish novel from one of my favorite presses, for $3.50. I’ve decided I need to know about Polish literature since I live in Greenpoint. Also, I’m going to need some sort of small dictionary of Polish baked goods.
