The most persuasive writings against the concept of precision that I’ve read are those of Jean Dubuffet.
The most compelling presentation of the potential wonders of non-precision that I ever heard, and at the same time the worst rock concert ever, was the Sex Pistols at Winterland, 1978.
A better example from rock music, because they truly were sublime: Joe Strummer and his mates in the Clash.
On the other hand, precision has it’s place. To borrow from Bruce Conner, we all want the people who fix the brakes on our cars to be precise as hell. Ditto the brain surgeons, should we god forbid ever need one.
