I will at least be at this: Lisa Jarnot, University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Thursday, January 25, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. Does UA have an extensive reading series?

J-
Never posted to you before; I teach at UA in Tuscaloosa and a friend pointed out your blog. I love your “5 reasons I’m glad I’m not in an MFA program”… ah… it’s just too good. Anyway, we do have a decent reading series here, and (usually) decent parties at grad students’ after. Here’s the spring list:

hey R, thanks for the schedule! i’ll attend as many of these as possible. good to see barbara jane reyes on there. if you want to complain about the MFA industry over drinks at a grad student party, you’ve found the right person to do it with.
does Hank come out to readings? i haven’t seen him in awhile and remember him to be pleasant company.
Wondered if you’re still coming to Jarnot’s reading? It’s on for this Thursday, 7:30 in Smith Hall. There’s a reception after at a grad student’s house; hope to see you! If you’d like to meet for coffee before, there are 2 places on campus and close – and I’d love to meet you. (I submitted to the Big Anthology project and was accepted.) reply back or email me if you’re interested in coffee…

hey ray, sounds good! i’ll definitely be at the party after, and would like to meet you before for coffee. just name a place and time (an address is handy; i’m not familiar with tuscaloosa, but have a GPS).
Am so sorry about your dad – sounds like the surgery is done and went well; hope you’re both okay.
Coffee before would be great! The easiest place is on-campus, inside the Main library on the first floor. They have a little lounge area and espresso shack.
Here’s some sort of directions:
From 20/59 take the McFarland blvd exit and head north on Mcfarland. Then, exit from that street onto University Blvd and head west. When you get to the campus area take a right on 6th Ave (a little one way street bordering the quad). Park anywhere and just walk to the Amelia Gayle Gorgas Library. The coffee place is in that library, called Java City. Here’s a campus map, the library is bldg 106:
http://tour.ua.edu/mapfull.html
I’ll be in Java City a few minutes before 7:00. The reading is at 7:30 and is less than a five minute walk from our coffee place. (The reading is in Smith Hall, bldg 114 on the map.)
So looking forward to it! Please get my cell # from my anthology submission and call if you have any probs with directions.
Ray
hey– i don’t think i can make it to this. I’m sorry. I’ll call you next time i’m in tuscaloosa.
